National Diploma: Textile Technology (Full time)

This Diploma has been offered at this Institution since 1980. Attracting students from all over South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, it has been a starting point for many successful careers in the textile manufacturing, retail and machine auxiliaries in the industry.

The course is generalist in nature with some specialization offered in the final year. Textile subjects include the following: Fibres, Yarn Manufacture, Fabric Manufacture, Colouration, Finishing, Product Engineering, Production Organization and Quality Control, Chemistry, Physics, Industrial Studies and Information Technology.

The course consists of 4 six-month Semesters of study and 2 six-month Semesters of experiential learning in industry. Semesters 1 and 4 are offered from January to June and Semesters 2 and 3 are offered from July to December of each year.

The entry requirement for this course is a School Leaving Certificate (Grade 12/National Senior Certificate) with recommended "D" symbol passes in Mathematics and Science, as well as a pass in English.

The course meets the requirements of SAQA which is accredited at LTI level with the Textile Institute and meets the requirements for the theoretical component of an LSDC with the Society of Dyers and Colourists.

B.Tech: Textile Technology (Part-time/On-line Learning)

SADFA Course (Part-time)

The SADFA course is presented by the South African Dyers & Finishers Association in conjunction with this Department.

This course consists of the two subjects, Dyeing (or Printing) and Fibres offered at 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year levels and is offered on a part-time basis only. Lectures take place every Monday afternoon from 16h00.

Assessment of progress is by means of tests with a written examination at the end of the year.

The course is accredited by SAQA and SDC

Please note that as the course is run on a non-profit basis, FEES ARE PAYABLE IN FULL ON REGISTRATION. Cheques are to be made payable to the Durban Institute of Technology. Invoices and receipts will be posted to employers after registration.
